Generation

Utility Generators, independent power producers, and market participants need to run resources optimally and meet the market and the regulator requirements.  novoGEN™ brings both functions onto the same real-time platform that runs the rest of the operation.

novoGEN supports control and monitoring and portfolio optimization of conventional generation, virtual power plants, and energy-market operations. Whether large thermal and hydro plants or a portfolio measured in tens of megawatts, operators can perform automatic generation control (AGC), optimize unit commitment and resource scheduling, manage interchange schedules, regulate system frequency, and dispatch both conventional and demand-response resources, working with novoDR™ for load shed and restoration. Because it’s built on renovo, generation control functionality sits alongside SCADA, transmission, and forecasting in one consolidated system, all separated by jurisdictional authority.

novoGEN also supports participation in the zonal and nodal energy markets, including ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, IESO, SPP, and NYISO, adapting to the specifics of each market’s communications and rules. Market deployment and dispatch instructions are combined with AGC, reducing manual processes.

Integrated transaction and schedule management delivers approved schedules to AGC for real-time implementation, with schedule data shared to other applications through novoAPI™. Inadvertent and energy accounting allows net scheduled-versus-actual interchange to be tracked to the hour for unilateral payback, with real-time and historical billing and accounting data available for reporting through standard BI tools.

Through novoForecast™, operators can access short-term load and resource forecasts produced by  neural-network and machine-learning techniques across a multi-day horizon and down to 5-10 minute increments.
